Wiki Names Your Band

I did a different one on FaceBook but these are fun so I did another one...here are the rules

Go to “Wikipedia.” Hit “random” and the first article you get is the name of your band. Then go to “Random Quotations” and the last four or five words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album. Then, go to Flickr and click on “Explore the Last Seven Days” and the third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

Band Name: Flying Saucer Working Party
Title of Album: Do Hard Things Well

Pandora

Well I have not really updated my music site so I decided to talk about this super cool website called Pandora (http://www.pandora.com ).  It is an internet radio site that predicts what music you like.  You set it up by typing in your favorite band or song and then it plays things similar to it.  When it plays a song, you can give it thumbs up or thumbs down so it knows if it is playing the right music.  You can also pull up why it is playing the songs they are which gives you great feedback on your musical taste.  You can set up as many stations as you want and I personally think it is a great way to find new bands that you never thought you would like.  You will be surprised after a handful of songs how well it can predict your musical taste...so check it out!

I also added the link to my Links page!

Xavier Rudd

Dan gave me some music last week, I was going through it, and Xavier Rudd caught my attention.  He is a one-man band who has a wide variety of sounds ranging from Tool, reggae, Paul Simon, and Dave Mathew's.  His new cd entitled "dark shades of blue" is great, especially the first two songs that rocked my brains!  I would definitely recommend listening to some of his stuff... here is his MySpace page http://www.myspace.com/xavierrudd.  If you like the music, Dan and I just bought tickets to see him in a couple weeks at the Voodoo Lounge at Harrah's!  They are GA so come one, come all!.....think ABOUT IT!

JJ Grey and Mofro

Since Jon always recommends shit ass music, I thought I would throw my two cents in the music recommending business.  I have been listening to JJ Grey and Mofro for the last couple of days and I am really enjoying it.  I saw them live awhile back but I never really had heard of them or had any of their music.  I downloaded there album Country Ghetto and I think it is very good....I'll give it 4 out of 5 stars.  They have a southern blues type sound and it is a good fun time listening to them while drinking a 4 pack of your favorite fruity wine cooler.  You can check them out at their Myspace right but now http://www.myspace.com/mofroband.  Your move Jon Mossie!

My Top Ten List

Well since I read that article about Obama/McCain's top ten list (right below) I decided to write down my top ten list.  This list is not in order and maybe it might not be my true top ten list....I just kind of been thinking about it here at work.  So here it is

"Lost in the Flood" by Bruce Springsteen
"Water" by the Who
"Don't let me Down" by the Beatles
"Happiness is a Warm Gun" by the Beatles
"Warning" by Black Sabbath
"Your Time is Gonna Come" by Led Zeppelin
"Walk Away" by Ben Harper
"Maybe I'm Amazed" by Paul McCartney
"Life by the Drop" by SRV
"Little Wing" by Jimi Hendrix

So there it is..my list.  I'm sure I'm leaving out some songs but these are the ones I can think of right now.  I have also added all these songs to my video page under Top Ten Songs

Obama and McCain's top ten list

Both Obama and McCain gave Blender magazine their top ten favorite song list and here it is

OBAMA's List
1. 'Ready or Not' Fugees
2. 'What's Going On' Marvin Gaye
3. 'I'm On Fire' Bruce Springsteen
4. 'Gimme Shelter' Rolling Stones
5. 'Sinnerman' Nina Simone
6. 'Touch the Sky' Kanye West
7. 'You'd Be So Easy to Love' Frank Sinatra
8. 'Think' Aretha Franklin
9. 'City of Blinding Lights' U2
10. 'Yes We Can' Will.i.am

McCain's List
1. 'Dancing Queen' ABBA
2. 'Blue Bayou' Roy Orbison
3. 'Take a Chance On Me' ABBA
4. 'If We Make It Through December' Merle Haggard
5. 'As Time Goes By' Dooley Wilson
6. 'Good Vibrations' The Beach Boys
7. 'What A Wonderful World' Louis Armstrong
8. 'I've Got You Under My Skin' Frank Sinatra
9. 'Sweet Caroline' Neil Diamond
10. 'Smoke Gets In Your Eyes' The Platters

In conclusion, Obama has some good taste in music (Bruce, Rolling Stones, Sinatra, West, etc) while McCain has the musical taste of a 50 year old homosexual (Abba twice and Neil Diamond)

Sevendust

After hearing Sevendust at Rockfest '08 I downloaded their cd's and I have to say I am digging them a lot.  I bought a new mp3 player to jog with and when I set it up the only music I had on computer was Sevendust so I put all their cd’s on it.  I have been listening to my mp3 player on random so I do not really know what album I am listening to or which one is the best but it all sounds good.  They are heavy metal so if you do not like heavy metal you probably will not dig them as much as I do, but if you are looking to start listening to heavy metal or want to try something new then this is a good band to start with!

The Raconteurs

I have been listening to the new Raconteurs CD called "Consolers of the Lonely" the last couple of days and I am really digging it!  It has been out for a while now but I just recently downloaded it.....I have been lazy with downloading and keeping up with music lately....probably because Jon Mossie broke two of my computers.
I really do not know how to describe this album maybe something like a mixture of Blues, Rock n Roll, Guitar riffs and so forth.  My favorite track on the album is the last song called "Carolina Drama".  It is a bluesy song about a milkman and what not.  So for the millions of readers reading this I would recommend that you get this CD because overall it is a solid rock album.  I would probably give it something like a 4 out of 5 bags of chips if I had a rating system that gave out bags of chips.

My TOP 5 Bands of ALL TIME!!

1. the WHO

I believe this is the best band of all-time.  They are just a tad better than Led Zeppelin.  I think the Who has the best vocals, drummer, bass player, songwriter, and a top 20 guitar player.  Each of their albums has a different sound and story and can match any mood you are feeling.

   Favorite Album-Quadrophenia

2. Led Zeppelin

It is all most like 1a and 1b but if I had to say who is number 2 it would be Led Zeppelin.  I think Led Zeppelin has a top 10 vocals, drummer, bass, guitar, and songwriter.

  Favorite Album-Physical Graffiti

3. the Beatles

This band started it all.  I believe this is the most influential band of all time.  They have so many great songs.  Paul and John are both great songwriters and musical talents.

Favorite Album- the White Album

4. Black Sabbath

Dark and Heavy riffs followed by Ozzy's voice.  There is nothing heavier in music than this band.  I do not consider post-Ozzy Black Sabbath real BLACK SABBATH.

  Favorite Album- Black Sabbath

5. the DOORS

This is a great musical band with so many different sounds that you are not use to in a rock n roll band.  Who knows if what Jim is singing makes any sense but it is still some great music.

   Favorite Album- the Doors

Others of note: Bruce Springsteen, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, SRV, and some others I am forgetting
